WATCH: Irish goalkeeper scores brilliant header to save his side from defeat

IRISH goalkeeper Barry Roche proved an unlikely goal hero for Football League Two side Morecambe on Tuesday night.

With his side 1-0 down to Portsmouth in the dying moments of a regular league match, the 33-year-old ventured forward for a 94th-minute corner.

His 6ft 4in frame clearly gave the Pompey defenders something to worry about, and he duly rose highest to power a header home and earn his side a valuable point.

Skip to around one minute and 32 seconds into the below video to see Roche's goal.

It was the former Ireland Under 17s keeper’s first career goal in almost 450 league appearances in England’s lower divisions, and he admits he found himself in unfamiliar territory when it came to celebrating.

“I hadn’t got a clue what to do,” he said. “I just jumped and then there was the pile on of all pile ons. I couldn’t breathe so I had to throw a few off me, but it’s a great feeling.”
