SO GOOD, they won it twice. That was the line renowned sports betting daily newspaper Racing Post ran with following Irish duo Ruby Walsh and Killultagh Vic’s amazing win in the big novice chase at Leopardstown.

With the race seemingly won ahead of the last jump, Killultagh Vic slipped when landing, losing all momentum and throwing Walsh off balance, whilst also displacing his foot from the right iron.

It allowed Blair Perrone and Lord Scoundrel to steal the lead on the final stretch, but both jockey and racehorse put in a heroic effort to chase after them and reclaim the lead in an outrageous finish.

“The picture made the front page of the Racing Post and it’s phenomenal,” said Irish Post columnist and fellow jockey Dougie Costello.

“Ruby rides with a good length of leg and that means he’s got a simple balance. You can see how tight his ankle is around the horse after his foot slipped out of the iron and his hands are still down by the horse’s neck.

“Yet Ruby still has the balance to hang on. To have made that mistake and recovered to win – it’s honestly phenomenal. It’s certainly the first time I’ve ever seen anything like it.

“Walsh really is the 'Miracle Man’, as the Racing Post called him after it. And in Killultagh Vic we may have seen a Kauto Star of the future. He’s beaten a couple of really good horses there.”
