Meet the amazing Irish school choir in with a shout to win Britain’s Got Talent

ST Patrick’s Primary School have been busy practising four nights a week in case they make it through to the live semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent.

The junior choir from Co. Down wowed the BGT judges with a beautiful rendition of Keane’s Somewhere Only We Know last month.

The performance has earned the pupils over a million views on YouTube in just over two weeks and made them a shoe in for the next round.

BoyleSport have reported that the choir are at 12/1 odds to win the entire competition, which airs on Saturday nights in Britain.

The choir, which includes children between the ages of 8 and 12, were asked to audition for the show after winning Radio Ulster's school choir of the year in 2016.

Teacher Patricia McCaughey was left feeling proud after she received a standing ovation and four yes votes alongside her pupils on BGT.

“The children are quite hopeful that they will make it through because the judges’ comments were really positive,” Ms McCaughey told The Irish Post.

“We rehearse three or four nights a week and the children are not afraid to work hard. That’s why they’ve come so far, they’re keen to do well and they’re not afraid to put in the hours.

The date of the semi-finals has not yet been confirmed by ITV, but they are expected to air at the end of this month.

After the St Patrick’s junior choir’s audition in Manchester, notoriously difficult to impress judge Simon Cowell was left in awe.

“Loved it, loved it,” he said. "You can't ask for much better than that!”

“Simon was so, so charming and really put the children at ease. Thankfully he seemed to be in a good mood that day,” Ms McCaughey said.

“Ant and Dec were also very, very nice and very professional and had great craic.

“All our fingers are crossed and we’re hoping we’ll be invited down to London for the semi-final stage soon.”

If they do get through, Ms McCaughey and all the children at St Patrick’s Primary School are urging everyone to get behind them and vote.
