Traditional Irish poitín (pronounced potcheen) was outlawed in the 1600s but since then legal versions of the drink are now available.

The drink varies vary in strength up to 60 per cent.

The outlawed poitín could be up to 90 per cent strength and was made using potato skins.

'Poitín' in Irish means 'little hangover', coming from the word 'poit' which means hangover.
