CONSTRUCTION workers downed tools to make way for Irish dancer Ciara Sexton - who took to a Coventry building site this month to record her latest dance video.
Barefoot and clad in a floaty white dress, the former world champion and current female lead in Riverdance filmed the final instalment of her three part dance series at Galliford Try’s Earlsdon Retirement Village site in the Earlsdon area of the city.
The video, which has since been posted on You Tube, was directed by Alex Taylor of the Mindsweep Media firm.
It forms the final part of Sexton’s Development trilogy of performances, which seek to “take Irish dancing away from its traditional staged format and into fresh and exciting territory”.
Sexton and Taylor, who are both Coventry natives, claim they chose the site for the “showcase” it offered of the skyline of their hometown and were delighted that the construction firm lent them the space for a short while.
“It was important for myself and Alex to complete the trilogy in Coventry and I was delighted that Galliford Try was able to help out,” Sexton told The Irish Post this week.
“Irish dancing has been everything to me and I hope that this trilogy of films demonstrates that passion to dance and how as an art form it is so much more than the traditional performance that everybody identifies it with.”
Kevin O’Brien, a senior project manager with Galliford Try, added: “We were more than happy to help Ciara and Alex realise their vision and complete their filming at the Earlsdon site. The Retirement Village will be a significant addition to the Coventry skyline so it was a fitting place for them to choose to promote the city.”
