Sad news of the passing of a wonderful singer songwriter Nanci Griffith.
One of my favourite singers from the 1980s.
68 year old Nanci Griffith has died.
According to her management company, Griffith passed away on Friday.
“It was Nanci’s wish that no further formal statement or press release happen for a week following her passing,” Gold Mountain Entertainment said in a statement.
The Grammy Award winning folk singer Nanci Griffith was from Texas, and wrote songs about the South, like “Love at the Five and Dime”

Nanci worked with the likes of Lyle Lovett and Emmylou Harris to help the early parts of their careers.
Seattle Times paid beautiful tributes “ She had a high-pitched voice, and her singing was effortlessly smooth with a twangy Texas accent as she sang about Dust Bowl farmers and empty Woolworth general stores.”
Griffith gained many fans in Ireland and Northern Ireland, where she would often tour

Tributes have flowed in from artists and fans throughout the world. Ireland’s Frances Black who sang with her on her album, posted on her Facebook account:
“I’m so saddened to hear of the passing of the wonderful Nanci Griffith, I was and always will be a big fan of Nanci’s music and voice. In fact I was lucky enough to record a few of Nanci’s songs for my first solo album ‘Talk to Me’ and Nanci came over to Ireland and sang with me on the album.. I was truly honoured.. my deepest condolences to all who loved her

I remember Nanci Griffith initially from her single “From a Distance,” which was a hit in IRELAND in 1988. It spent 17 weeks in the Irish Top 30 during that year. From a Distance would later be a hit for Bette Midler and is a favourite of Irish singer Tommy Fleming. The song appeared on Griffith’s first major label release, “Lone Star State of Mind” in 1987.

Her 1993 album “Other Voices, Other Rooms,” earned a Grammy for best contemporary folk album. Named after a Truman Capote novel, the album features Griffith singing with Harris, John Prine, Arlo Guthrie and Guy Clark on classic folk songs.
Griffith won the Lifetime Achievement Trailblazer Award from the Americana Music Association, in 2008
Country singer Suzy Bogguss, who had a hit with Griffith’s song “Outbound Plane,” posted a remembrance to her friend on Instagram.
“I feel blessed to have many memories of our times together along with most everything she ever recorded. I’m going to spend the day reveling in the articulate masterful legacy she’s left us,” Bogguss wrote.
