Daredevil scales Dublin's Poolbeg chimneys without safety equipment to record hair-raising video

DRAMATIC footage has emerged of a fearless daredevil climbing one of Dublin’s famous Poolbeg chimneys – over 200 metres in the air.

The iconic 680-foot towers have been a mainstay of the Dublin skyline since construction began on Poolbeg Generating Station in 1965.

In the video, Oliver from Denmark can be seen making his way onto the property before going over to a ladder attached to the side of the structure.

After scaling the structure without a harness and reaching a small platform near the summit, he then utilises his selfie stick to share some incredible, and quite frankly terrifying views across the city.

At the end of the video Oliver sits with his legs dangling down over the side of the 207 metre chimney.

Writing on YouTube, Oliver – who posts under the name OJ Adventures – said: “I was on a trip to Ireland and I went to Dublin.

“I wanted to visit this amazing place and climb the famous chimneys in Dublin. I went out to the old and abandoned place one day, climbed over fences, jumped over walls and explored this awesome place.

“The scenery was amazing and I will never forget it. It took me a while to get up the 200 meter chimney and I was concerned about getting busted because I did it in the afternoon. I could easily be seen whilst I was climbing," he added.

“The chimneys are not in use, but there is another part of the area which is. So there were security guards out there. I performed the climb without the use of safety equipment of any kind.”

A look at the OJ Adventures YouTube page shows that it is not a first for the daredevil, who has also previously scaled huge structures in in Denmark, Budapest and the tallest chimney in Europe located in Slovenia.

The hair-raising clip involving the Poolbeg chimneys has now been viewed almost 100,000 times on YouTube.

A spokeswoman for ESB, who operate the sight, said that the incident had been reported to gardaí and an internal investigation had taken place.

She added that since the incident security at the side has also been upgraded.

Needless to say, don’t try this at home.
