Aiden McGeady shows Ireland what we've been missing recently with gorgeous free-kick

IRELAND'S RECENT international break obviously left quite a bit to be desired.

Three games. Two losses. One draw.

It wasn't great at all. But one of the most disappointing aspects of the campaign was the lack of creativity in the side.

We played some very good football at times throughout the three games, but we had no single player that was getting the ball, turning, and making something happen.

Nobody in particular was trying anything wild or extremely creative, and perhaps that's where we missed Aiden McGeady.

The former Celtic winger just turned 35, so his yard of pace that he was once known for has disappeared to an extent.

But this has just made his mind work quicker by necessity, and he is absolutely thriving at Sunderland as a result.

He hardly played for Sunderland until the new year, and since the end of December has registered 13 assists and six goals, with one of his gorgeous assists helping Sunderland on the way to the EFL Trophy.

And in the push for promotion, he scored a lovely free-kick at the weekend to rescue a point against Peterborough.

People will be quick to bring up his age and the standard he's playing at, but when Ireland needed something magical against Luxembourg, we could have done with the tricky winger on the bench.
