WATCH: Gardaí take break from policing with brilliant impromptu trad session

TWO MEMBERS of An Garda Síochána took a break from regular policing to lift spirits with an impromptu trad session over the weekend.

The unnamed officers are members of An Garda Síochána's police band, which can usually be found performing at State events and festivals, such as Dublin's Bloom Festival or the annual Passing Out ceremony in the Garda training college in Templemore-- check out a video of the band performing the national anthem, Amhrán na bhFiann, below.

But with mass gatherings cancelled for the foreseeable future, the Garda band has been-- and excuse the pun-- disbanded for the time being.

But this didn't stop these two Gardaí from taking a break from conducting Covid-19 checkpoints in Dublin's Phoenix Park and getting some practice in.

One member took to the tin whistle and another to the piano-- wearing gloves for safety-- where they performed a tune that wouldn't be out of place in Ennis during the annual Fleadh Ceoil.

Check out the brilliant video below.

The video was posted by An Garda Síochána's official Facebook page, alongside the message:

"Garda band members taking a break from Covid-19 Checkpoint Duty in the Phoenix Park today."

They again reminded people that there is "no parking or stopping in the Phoenix Park.

"Please adhere to the 2km rule from your home. #StayHomeSaveLives."
