TRIBUTES have been paid to Don Everly after the rock 'n' roll legend passed away at the age of 84.
Don and his late brother Phil comprised the country-influenced rock 'n' roll duo the Everly Brothers, who had a string of hits in the 1950s and 1960s.
A statement from his family to the Los Angles Times confirmed he had passed away at his home in Nashville on Saturday.
"Don lived by what he felt in his heart," it read.
"Don expressed his appreciation for the ability to live his dreams ... with his soulmate and wife, Adela, and sharing the music that made him an Everly Brother."
In the '50s, the duo had such as Bye, Bye Love, Wake Up Little Suzie and All I Have to Do is Dream, which reached No. 1 in America and Britain.
They repeated the feat with Cathy's Clown in 1960, while other hits included Walk Right Back and The Price of Love.
The latter failed to enter the US Hot 100 but was a hit in Britain and Ireland.
The duo split up in 1973 before reforming a decade later and performed periodically until Phil's death in 2014 at the age of 74.
Kyle Young of the Country Music Hall of Fame described Don Everly as "one of the most talented and impactful artists in popular music history".
“As a singer, songwriter, and guitar innovator, Don Everly was one of the most talented and impactful artists in popular music history. His influence reverberates through the songs and ethereal harmonies he conjured with his brother Phil.”

RIP Don Everly. No singers of my schooldays meant more to me than the Everly Brothers. To quote one of their great hits (which Don wrote) - So Sad.

Very sad day. Both of the Everlys were part of my musical life growing up. We were inspired by their wonderful records and their singing and their voices. Wake Up Little Suzie was my favorite as a kid. #DonEverlyRIP #doneverly https://t.co/a4hH0i2vaf

It is with deep sadness that I acknowledge the passing of #DonEverly. The preservation & documentation of his music w/Phil has been a great source of joy & pride for me. Among the many artists I have had the good fortune to work with, the Everlys are without a doubt my favorites. pic.twitter.com/bbfGj8P7Ri
