Murder inquiry launched as body discovered in burning car in Dublin

GARDAÍ HAVE launched a murder inquiry after a man's body was discovered inside a burning car yesterday evening, Monday November 18th, in Lucan, Dublin.

The discovery was made when emergency services were called to the scene of a car set ablaze in Mount Andrew Rise at approximately 8.15pm, according to RTÉ.

Upon extinguishing the blaze, the body was found in the passenger seat of the car.

Gardaí believe the body to be that of a male and suspect he may have been shot dead before the car was set alight.

The man was found to have sustained serious head injuries, likely caused by a single shot, and Gardaí have now confirmed that a murder investigation has been launched.

As reported by RTÉ, investigating detectives believe the man may have voluntarily entered the car with a person or people that he trusted and was driven to the location where his body was discovered.

It is likely that the car was set alight in order to destroy any evidence.

Last night, the scene was preserved in order for a technical examination to be undertaken, and it remains sealed off this morning, with the Garda Technical Bureau and a State pathologist due to attend the scene today.

As part of the murder inquiry, Gardaí are investigating whether the burnt out car is a stolen vehicle and are encouraging anyone with any information to come forward by contacting Lucan Garda Station on 01 666 7300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
