THE UK'S Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton visited a farm in County Down as part of a Royal trip to Northern Ireland.

Kate, who is married to second-in-line for the throne William, met representatives at the Ark Open Farm in the Newtownards area of County Down as part of her work focusing on Early Years.

The Early Years representatives at the farm work with Kate's charity which focuses on improving services for young children, their families and the communities surrounding them, according to RTÉ.

Photographs of the event show her helping local children to feed farm animals as well as meeting people from the community.

The duchess recently launched a UK-wide survey entitled 5 Big Questions on the Under-Fives, which aims to raise awareness and start a conversation surrounding the issues which arise in early childhood.

RTÉ reports that, during the trip, Kate met with some of the children who had benefitted from her Early Years charity work.

A visit to the Republic has been confirmed by London's Kensington Palace, with Prince William and Kate expected to visit Ireland in early March.

Though the exact location has not yet been revealed, the rumour mill was operating in overdrive today as a notice purported to be from Gardaí announced that several locations in Galway City Centre would be closed to the public on the 5th of March.
