Indoor dining, international travel should return in July, NPHET recommends

THE IRISH public could be enjoying trips abroad as early as July under new recommendations from NPHET.

The National Public Health Emergency Team, headed by Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan, has suggested that July is the right time for the return of indoor dining and international travel.

Several days of discussion will today culminate in a roadmap being signed off by the government, followed by an official government announcement this evening which is expected to include the return of indoor dining no sooner than 5 July and international travel in mid-July.

According to The Journal, NPHET has also recommended that up to 5,000 people should be allowed attend large outdoor venues, such as Croke Park, from 2 August, meaning the All Ireland finals will have spectators.

Smaller outdoor venues will have a limit of 500 people, indoor evets in large venues can host 200 people and smaller indoor venues can host 100 people.

With regards to International Travel, Ireland is expected to take part in the European digital green cert system which will allow free movement within the EU, and European countries France, Belgium and Luxembourg will no longer be a part of Ireland's Mandatory Hotel Quarantine scheme.

The Irish public may enjoy holidays abroad after all this summer

Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan said it is vital that the government plans for the return of international travel, citing scenes in the UK which saw large queues in airports when restrictions were lifted.

These long-term plans are in addition to previously confirmed dates of restrictions being lifted, which include outdoor dining returning on 7 June and hotels and B&Bs reopen on 2 June.

Indoor dining, tipped to return in July, will include limits and restrictions including a time limit of 105 minutes and no more than six people at a table-- you can learn more here.
