AN EASYJET passenger found a unique way of getting around the budget airline’s additional baggage fee – though it left him sweating his way through customs.
When John Irvine was told that the bag he planned on taking aboard his flight from Nice to Edinburg was eight kilograms (about 17 pounds) overweight he came up with a bold solution to avoiding paying any additional charges.
Opening his suitcase in front of the visibly bewildered Easyjet staff, Irvine proceeded to don the equivalent weight in additional clothing, which amounted to a hefty 15 shirts.
His efforts were made all the more astonishing for the fact they came on a hot day, with temperatures reaching around 30 degrees Celsius, or 86 degrees Fahrenheit in the French city.
The entire incident was captured for posterity and amusement by his son, Josh, who shared the resulting video on Twitter.

“We were coming home back to Bearsden, Glasgow from France on Saturday night and we never thought we’d be over the weight limit by eight kilos,” his 17-year told The Metro.
“He did not want to pay EasyJet charges. The lassie at the counter asked us if we wanted to pay extra but my dad just looked up at her and said ‘Hen, watch this,’ and zipped open the suitcase and quickly flung on about 15 jumpers to help cut down the weight.”
The amusement didn’t end there though.
Once through the gate, John then had to contend with another issue: security.
“They thought he was trying to smuggle something under all his clothes,” Josh explained. “Thankfully we got through eventually.”
It was all worth it in the end. Probably.
