THE BRITISH Government's plan for Northern Ireland, Ireland and the border have been released in a Brexit position paper.
In brief, the position paper says:

The border will continue as it is, with the exception of a visual customs border.

The Belfast Agreement will be maintained, so the birthright to dual nationality of Irish and British citizenship for Northern Irish residents will be maintained.

Funding for reconciliation projects in border areas will continue.

The free flow of Irish citizens in the Common Travel Area will be maintained.

Exports from Ireland and Northern Ireland to Britain will continue.

There will not be a border in the Irish Sea.

There will not be any immigration controls at the border in Northern Ireland, likewise no immigration controls flying from Ireland and Northern Ireland into Britain.

However, there will be checks in other methods, for example on renting, employment and car hire to limit EU nationals access to British services.

The Government will co-ordinate with the Irish Government to keep Ireland as one economic unit.

They have also said that if a harder border is required in the future, that will be a decision for Irish officials and the EU.
