AS St Patrick's Day inches ever closer The Irish Post is setting off on a road trip across Britain to share some festivities with our readers.
While Ireland’s national day falls on March 17, this week we will kick off the party early at special events we are hosting in Glasgow, Birmingham and Manchester.
With Scotland our first stop we’ll bring a touch of shamrock and sparkle to Glasgow’s City Chambers on Friday, March 6, where our host Lord Provost Sadie Docherty will help us to lead the celebrations.
Scores of Irish community and business leaders from across Scotland are due to join us for the Irish Post St Patrick’s Breakfast bash, which is now in its second year.
It falls within bustling schedules already underway to celebrate St Patrick’s Day in both Glasgow and Coatbridge, where the St Patrick’s Festival Coatbridge 2015 runs from February 27 until March 17 and the Glasgow St Patrick's Festival offers nearly a fortnight of Irish entertainment, at venues dotted around the city centre, from March 5 - 17.
Despite not having a festival of its own, Edinburgh will also play an important part in Scotland’s St Patrick’s celebrations this year – with the Scottish Government recently agreeing to illuminate Edinburgh Castle in green on March 17 as part of Ireland’s Global Greening initiative.
When proceedings come to an end in Glasgow The Irish Post will be on route to Birmingham to continue the fun with a second Irish Post St Patrick’s Breakfast.
Our supporters, readers and community members from across the West Midlands will join us in the city for the occasion on the morning of Saturday, March 7.
The popular event, which has been going for more than a decade, will be hosted at The Burlington Hotel once again this year and will welcome back one of our most popular fixtures, local radio favourite Bob Brolly, as MC.
And once the rashers have been eaten and the toasts have been made our guests can find much more craic on offer across the city this weekend – with the Birmingham St Patrick’s Festival hosting events from Friday, March 6 until Parade Day on Sunday, March 15.
The Irish Post team, however, will be making its way to the Irish World Heritage Centre in Manchester,
There we will host a special evening celebrating St Patrick’s Day and our own 45th anniversary, with guests from across Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool, a theme that will be evident throughout the engagements in our busy cross-country roadshow.
With 2015 particularly special for The Irish Post we have chosen to celebrate our anniversary throughout the year and our St Patrick’s Day events are among the first of our attempts to bring The Irish Post out to the community across Britain.
And we can’t wait to meet as many of you as possible as we traverse the country this week, so if you come across anyone from the team at any of our events please make sure you stop and say hi!
