THERE was music and merriment go leor in Newcastle this year as the city's business and community groups came out in green to celebrate Ireland's patron saint.

This year's Shamrock Ball, hosted by the business network Lionra, saw over 300 guests enjoy an evening of great food and entertainment at the Hilton Gatehead.

Hosted by comedian and TV personality Brendan Healy, there was also a display of Irish dancing from Britain's Got Talent stars Innova Dance Company and music from the eclectic Baghdaddies.

Hosted by Maurice Duffy, the CEO of global business transformation consultancy Blackswan who is pictured above with his family, the event also raised money for two great charities - the Sick Children’s Trust and the PSPA, a charity that supports people with the rare brain disease Progressive supranuclear palsy.

As part of a week of Irish celebrations on the Tyne the city’s Irish Cultural Society - led by Director Tony Corcoran - also hosted a series of events including this display of music and dance at the Monument in the city centre.
