Cheers in Leeds as flashmob takes over the city's St Patrick's Day celebrations

St Patrick's Day festival-goers in Leeds got more then they bargained for when an Irish-themed flashmob took to the streets this week.

Crowds couldn't help but gather around this group of young performers as they jigged and reeled their way through an Irish dance extravaganza in Millenium Square at the city's St Patrick's festival on Saturday.

Just three dancers kick-started the show but were quickly joined by scores more who tapped their way through a traditional Irish dance set.

The flashmob crew, made up from a number of the city's Irish dance schools, were then joined by choreographer and champion dancer Sinead Fallon who upped the tempo with a fast-paced  Riverdance-style performance.

The Leeds St Patrick's Day Flashmob 2015 was organised by Leeds Irish Health and Homes to help raise awareness for the charity, which provides care, support and culture services to the city's local community.

"At the Leeds St Patrick’s Day Parade we took the crowd by surprise with our St Patrick’s Day flashmob. Watch and share the video and scroll down to find out if you are the winning face in the crowd!" the organisation said.

Dancers from a number of schools in the city took part including Elizabeth McCleave, Joyce O'Donnell, Noonan, Roland Watson and Tierney Schools of Irish Dancing as well as the Leeds University Union Irish Dancers.
