What Sheffield United's Irish contingent should do next season

SHEFFIELD UNITED'S Premier League rollercoaster has come to an end.

Sheffield United can have no regrets about how their Premier League journey went.

Last season they were written off by everyone in football, and told they were heading straight back down, only for them to narrowly miss out on European football at the end of the season.

They brought an entirely new style of football to the league, with overlapping center-halfs, and full backs who constantly bombed up and down the wing, catching teams out on a weekly basis.

At the core of this side was an Irish contingent, who have now been relegated to the Championship, and may be looking at their future.

Here's what The Blades' Irish boys should do this summer.

John Egan

At just 28 years of age, Egan has a lot ahead of him. He could stay and be a guaranteed starter in a United side that will do its best to come straight back up, but we feel he should be playing regularly in the Premier League.

He's more than comfortable with the ball at his feet, and would be perfectly suited to a manager who is going to make him work hard. We think he should head to Leeds and play under Marcelo Bielsa.

Enda Stevens

Stevens has been one of the biggest success stories in Irish football over the past number of years. He made it to the Premier League with Aston Villa, but it didn't work out for him. So he went down to the lower leagues and worked his way back up, only to narrowly miss out on a spot in the Team of the Year last season.

He's still a very talented player and should be playing in the Premier League in a side that plays with wing backs. He should head to Brighton, where he'd thrive on the opposite wing to Tariq Lamptey.

David McGoldrick

McGoldrick was probably United's player of the season this year, and he has already scored more this season than he did last year.

But at 33, he probably won't be any team in the league's first choice striker, whereas he could be a pivotal part in United's promotion push next season.

He should stay in Sheffield and try bring his side back up with some big goals and classy touches in the Championship.
