Westmeath star John Heslin has announced his retirement from inter-county football. The 32-year-old has been a key player for the Westmeath senior football team since making his debut in 2011.
Heslin's honours include 150 appearances for his native county and becoming Westmeath's all-time leading championship scorer. He is also a Sigerson Cup winner with UCD and spent time with AFL side Richmond in 2012.
Westmeath GAA paid tribute to the Mullingar native, acknowledging the significant impact he has made on the history of Westmeath GAA.
"Westmeath GAA would like to formally acknowledge the retirement of John Heslin, one of the most exceptional and dedicated players ever to represent our county," said the county in a statement.
"John’s decision to step away from inter-county football brings to a close a truly remarkable career that has left an indelible mark on the history of Westmeath GAA.
"From his debut in 2011, John Heslin has been a central figure in the Westmeath senior football team. Over his illustrious career, he made more than 150 appearances and became Westmeath’s all-time leading scorer, a testament to his extraordinary skill, consistency, and leadership."

The statement also paid homage to Heslin's exemplary conduct off the field, highlighting his positive influence on supporters, teammates, and opponents. They noted that his legacy will inspire future GAA stars in the county.
