Tanseeb looks to have been found an ideal opportunity to get his head in front. He receives hefty weight concessions from his older rivals today and with a decent low draw he looks primed to go well. He was only just touched off  by Sea Shanty in a similar race at Sandown last month and he can make amends for a very much in form team.  Joe Fanning has ridden twenty four winners since the beginning of the month and eighteen of them have come for the Mark Johnston yard.

Balducci is still well in on the best of his old form and is a previous course and distance winner. He returned to winning ways at Haydock last time and has an ideal draw in stall one this afternoon. The fast ground will suit and David O’ Meara has once again found winning form and his Balducci looks the biggest threat to the selection.

Prince Of Johanne showed something of his old sparkle when fifth to Velox a couple of weeks ago at Sandown. He is now back down to his last winning mark and if putting it all together he can once again make the frame. Tanseeb is still only lightly raced and ought to be right in the mix here.

2-25       NEWSELLS PARK STUD STAKES (LISTED) – 1 M 4 F

Speckled can maintain an unbeaten record for Charlie Appleby when lining up to contest this fillies listed event. She was good enough to win following a similar break last season and despite both of her victories coming on a polytrack surface, there is nothing to suggest that she cannot translate that form to the turf. This track is where the yard have their most successes and there should be further improvement to come from this daughter of Street Cry.

Criteria has done nothing wrong in three starts this term. She won on her seasonal reappearance before getting beaten by the narrowest of margins at Lingfield in the Oaks trial behind Honor Bound. She then bumped into a rejuvenated Bracelet at Royal Ascot in the Ribblesdale going down by just a length. Provided that those races have not left too much of a mark, she should prove the main danger to the selection.

Anipa shall find this a lot easier here than when contesting the Oaks at Epsom last time out and if she is fully over those exertions, she too could make the frame. Godolphin runners always command respect at their local track and Speckled could well be on the upgrade.

Winter Thunder was an impressive winner over this course and distance last time out. That may have only been a maiden race, but he was able to pull some four lengths clear of the talented Loving Home. That individual was only beaten a short head in a handicap subsequently at Sandown whilst the third placed Tryster has also come out to win since, so the form looks strong.

Earl of Menteith won as he liked at Ayr when upped to this trip for the first time. Mark Johnston has his string in excellent form and with Joe Fanning booked he will try and dominate from the outset. If allowed an uncontested lead there is no doubt he will pose the main danger.

Agent Murphy comes here unbeaten and the form of his last race is also working out well. If coping with this slight step up in distance, he too must make the shortlist. Godolphin won this race last season and they will be keen to do so again. Kieren Fallon has a decent strike rate for the yard and the duo ought to go well.

THE CURRAGH

5-45       DARLEY IRISH OAKS (FILLIES GROUP 1) – 1 M 4 F

Volume can enhance the recent excellent record that British raiders have in this particular race. She hung badly left on the camber at Epsom when contesting the English Oaks but should find herself more at ease on this more conventional track. As a result she can reverse recent form with Tarfasha who beat her by a mere nose and can give Luca Cumani a first ever win in this race.

Bracelet was a comfortable winner at Royal Ascot last time and saw off the challenge of the reopposing Lustrous. The ground shall certainly be in this Bracelet’s favour and she may provide the sternest challenge to Volume.  Of the other contenders both Marvellous and Tarfasha’s best runs have come on rain softened ground and both are passed over on this occasion.

Richard Hannon does have an excellent strike rate at The Curragh and he would not be bringing his filly over to take in the fresh air. Lustrous shall also appreciate the conditions and can make the frame for an in form team. The booking of Kevin Manning for Volume could prove a masterstroke by Luca Cumani and the combination could prove difficult to beat.
