Weekend Betting Tips: Adelasia on track for Newmarket

Our tipster Karl Hedley provides the odds for this weekend's races

SATURDAY

NEWMARKET

1-50       CHEVELEY PARK STUD FILLIES NURSERY – 7 FURLONGS

Adelasia came on in leaps and bounds to shed her maiden status at Doncaster at the second time of asking. She beat the re-opposing Astrelle and Mahsooba quite convincingly on that occasion and both individuals have come out and won since giving the form a timely boost.

Silvestre De Sousa replaces Will Buick in the saddle upon Adelasia and both he and Charlie Appleby have a healthy strike rate at Newmarket.

Gregoria could be the biggest danger if allowed a soft lead. She led the field a merry dance at Doncaster on her latest start and never once looked in any sort of trouble. William Haggas has his yard in excellent shape and another decent run can be expected from this daughter of Holy Roman Emperor.

Little Lady Katie provided somewhat of a shock when landing the odds at a massive price on only her second start, She is clearly on the upgrade but may well have to make do with minor honours here. Godolphin’s record at their local track is very impressive and Adelasia has the ability to give them yet another success.

2-20       DOUBLE O SEVEN GREY HORSE HANDICAP – 6 FURLONGS

Light From Mars came right back to his very best over this course and distance last month and is once again partnered by Mikey Ennis who takes off an invaluable seven pounds. This trip is an absolute minimum for the nine year old veteran and it is worth remembering that he was only beaten by a head in this race last season. He is still well handicapped on the best of his old form and despite carrying top-weight here, he has the ability to go very close.

Baby Strange has won many big field handicaps in his day and now looks dangerous off his current mark. He too was only touched off in this race last year and like the selection it will be of no surprise if he reversed the placings with their conqueror Crew Cut who has been woefully out of form this season.

Rylee Mooch is better over five furlongs whilst Medici Time has been beaten in lower grades of late and is passed over here. Light From Mars is tough and consistent and that can prove an asset in this company.

NEWBURY

2-40       BETFRED TV GEOFFREY FREER STAKES (GROUP 3) – 1 M 5 F 61 YDS

Seal Of Approval can get back to winning ways now that she is reunited with George Baker. The step down in trip last time clearly did not suit and much better can be expected from James Fanshawe’s five year old mare this afternoon. There should be plenty of pace on here with Somewhat likely to cut out most of the running and that can play into the hands of this proven mudlark.

Red Cadeaux is the highest rated runner in the field and he is a proven Group One performer. He was a gallant runner up in the Melbourne Cup towards the backend of last season and this race is likely to be used as a stepping stone towards that race yet again.

The booking of Gerard Mosse certainly takes the eye and they are likely to provide the biggest opposition to the selection. Willing Foe comes here on the back of a layoff. He generally goes well fresh and is not adverse to underfoot conditions.

Saeed Bin Suroor has his yard in fine form and this evergreen seven year old can also make the frame, Seal Of Approval receives weight from all bar one rival today and that can tilt the odds in her favour.

RIPON

3-30       WILLIAM HILL GREAT ST WILFRED HANDICAP – 6 FURLONGS

Pipers Note is a real course and distance specialist and he bounced back to his very best when scoring here earlier in the month and beating several of today’s re-opposing rivals. He has won twice before when partnered by Amy Ryan and despite being a four year old, he remains relatively unexposed.

Progressive four year olds have landed two of the last three renewals of this race and having won four of his twelve career starts to date he has to be high on any shortlist.

Tatlisu could well be the biggest danger if returning to his very best form. He was smart enough to see off Muthmir earlier in the year and that individual has subsequently won the Skybet Dash at York. That form should see him confirm recent placings with the likes of Kimberella and Clear Spring.

Richard Fahey took this prize last year and will be confident of doing so again. Bondesire is another rival worthy of consideration as he has never finished outside of the first three places when racing at this track. His run at the Shergar Cup last weekend indicated that he was on his way back to his best and he too can make the frame.

Pipers Note remains on the upgrade and back on his favourite track he go close in a wide open race.
