Watch: Enniskerry GAA team fall from lorry while celebrating county final victory

TERRIFYING FOOTAGE of the moment several members of the Enniskerry GAA club fell from the top of a lorry while celebrating their latest victory has surfaced online.

The incident took place in the wake of a local Junior B GAA county final win.

The incident occurred in Enniskerry Village at approximately 6.30pm on Saturday, October 12.

In the footage, a large crowd of players can be seen jumping up and down jubilantly on top of the articulated truck.

But the celebrations quickly take a disturbing turn when several people appear to fall from the top of the vehicle.

According to a Garda spokesperson some were left seriously injured as a result of the incident, with those hurt rushed to Tallaght and St Vincent's hospitals in Dublin.

He said: "Gardai at Enniskerry are investigating an incident in which a group of young men were injured when they fell from the trailer of an articulated lorry.”

"It’s understood up to nine people were injured and removed from the scene by ambulance to Tallaght and St Vincent's hospitals for treatment.

“Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

"The road was closed for short time but has since reopened. Enquiries are ongoing."

 

 

Several players are now recovering from injuries including broken back bones.

Enniskerry GAA Club released a statement on Facebook over the incident.

The club said: "There is no critical or life threatening injuries after tonight’s accident nor was there any deaths.

"Some players have bad injuries but everyone will be fine.

"We’d appreciate if people could stop spreading false rumours and sharing videos.

"Thanks to all for your concern."

Wicklow GAA tweeted: "A statement regarding Enniskerry GAA club.

"Following an incident this evening a no. of players are receiving medical attention, however none of their injuries are critical.

"We would ask that people refrain from sharing videos of the incident out of respect for the injured parties."

Wicklow TD and Health Minister Simon Harris also tweeted: "Thinking of those injured in Enniskerry and their families tonight.

"Our entire community hopes and prays that everyone will be ok."
