WATCH: Chaotic scenes as Conor McGregor scales cage and confronts referee at Dublin’s 3Arena

UFC champion Conor McGregor stormed the Octagon at an MMA event in Dublin tonight before clashing with the referee.

The Irishman was in his home town for Bellator 187, where pal Charlie Ward was taking on John Redmond in a middleweight clash.

Ward had just dispatched fellow Irishman Redmond in the closing seconds of the first round, when McGregor decided to scale the cage and celebrate with Ward in the Octagon.

McGregor embraced a bloodied Ward but the intervention of referee Marc Goodard seemed to rile the reigning UFC lightweight and featherweight champion.

He clashed with the official before being restrained, but broke free and proceeded to berate Goodard.

After shoving the referee, who was checking on the beaten Redmond, three men held McGregor back as tempers threatened to boil over.

McGregor eventually left the Octagon, before waving to fans as he did a lap of the cage.
