WARWICKSHIRE manager Paddy Hoey praised the resilience of his side after they came away from Sligo with two vital points in their Lory Meagher Cup quest.
Emmet McCabe scored nine points for Warwickshire, who prevailed on a 3-12 to 1-15 scoreline at Markievicz Park.
Speaking to The Irish Post Hoey said: “They all played well against Sligo, our second-half performance in particular was impressive. Even though we were one down going into the interval we knew that we were in control, it was more a case of indiscipline costing us in that opening half.”
Colm McBride, John Bergin, and substitute Pauric Crehan grabbed Warwickshire’s goals during the victory.
“We opened up in the second-half, Emmet McCabe and Joe Meagher were excellent for us but all the lads played well,” Hoey said. “We will have to see how the fixtures go this weekend, but that result looks to have set us up for Lancashire on the final weekend.”
The permutations were further complicated after Leitrim narrowly edged Lancashire in Ballinamore to join Fermanagh on four points at the top of the table. With both Leitrim and Sligo still to play the Erne County the race for a top two finish could go right to the wire for all counties.
Leitrim defeated a gutsy Lancashire side, inspired by Colm O’Callaghan, 1-16 to 1-14 at Ballinamore on Saturday.
O’Callaghan impressed for Lancashire, who also netted a late goal courtesy of Liam Knocker, but Leitrim held on.
