BACK in the day, Wembley used to play host to inter-county GAA matches at this time of year and fascinating new footage has emerged of one such event.
In May 1966, just a couple of months before the World Cup final was staged on the very same turf, Cavan took on Sligo before a large crowd in the home of English football.
Up for grabs was the O'Gorman Cup, which Cavan duly won on a scoreline of 3-10 to 1-10, and it turns out the match was captured by an onlooker.
Charlie Gallagher lifted the cup for The Breffni Men and it appears as though a hurling match involving Wexford and Cork took place after the football.
