CRYSTAL PALACE manager Alan Pardew claims Shane Long has ‘history’ when it comes to going down in the penalty area after the Irishman won a penalty against his side on Wednesday night.
Long’s Southampton beat the Eagles 2-0, with Charlie Austin breaking the deadlock after netting the penalty on 33 minutes, with Jake Hesketh adding a second just after the hour mark.
Although Long is without a goal yet in seven appearances this season, he is proving a thorn in the side of opponents, but Pardew suggests an element of simulation was involved in him winning a penalty.
“Shane Long is quick and has got a bit of history in those situations,” claimed the Palace boss.
“He was definitely going over, I know that, but the video I saw was inconclusive. The players felt it was a bit harsh but it was difficult to see unless you see it clearly on television.”
Palace defender Martin Kelly miss-controlled the ball before colliding with Long inside the area.
