THE Gathering have uploaded a video featuring a number of Irish GAA players playing in Britain who made their way to Kerry for last month’s Comórtas Peile Páidí Ó Sé .
48 GAA teams – including 16 teams from overseas – came to Kerry for the biggest festival yet to celebrate Gaelic football and remember Kerry legend Páidi, who passed away last December.
Martin O'Neill, captain of Cardiff club St Colmcille's said: “Páidi came over and invited us to the event, and as a GAA legend I think it'd be a great year to come and honour his memory to play in this tournament.”
Irish Minister for Sport Leo Varadkar also attended the event and said that about the tournament was of importance of the GAA for Irish people abroad.
He said: “Páidí was a great supporter of Irish sport, tourism and the Gathering. His untimely death was felt by everyone in Kerry, across Ireland and around the world.
“I’m delighted that so many of his friends have come to Kerry to celebrate their links with Páidí, and with this most beautiful part of Ireland. So many players from far-flung places are here celebrating Paid i’s life, and their love of football. This is what the Gathering Ireland 2013 is all about, and it’s a fitting tribute to Páidí himself.”
