Van Dijk refutes Keane 'arrogance' claims

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has refuted claims from Roy Keane that his comments after Liverpool vs. United were "arrogant."

On Sunday evening, Liverpool and United played out a tight 0-0 draw at Anfield, with Liverpool dominating in terms of chance creation, ball possession, and shots on target.

However, United's robust display earned them a point, and Van Dijk expressed his disappointment in the post-match interview after the game.

"There was only one team, I think, that was trying to win the game. Unfortunately, it didn't happen," said the Dutchman.

"That's why it's frustrating. We want to win every game, of course, but especially if we play against a team like them...

"We were superior in all aspects from the very beginning. They were hoping for a couple of counterattacks and to hurt us on the break. In the end, they are buzzing with a point, and we are very disappointed with a point."

Keane hit back shortly after in the Sky Sports studio, claiming the Liverpool defender's comments were "arrogant" and that he should choose his words carefully.

"He needs to be reminded of himself; he's playing for a club that’s won one title in 30 years," Keane said.

“He said only one team wanted to win; Manchester United were buzzing with the point. Man United is in a difficult place, like Liverpool has been in a difficult place for many a year. So maybe that bit of arrogance backfired on him today."

Van Dijk has responded to Keane's clapback and refuted the notion that what he said was "arrogant" and that there was truth in what he said.

"I like Roy Keane; if he said that, then it's fine," he said.

"He is Manchester United through and through, and I understand he could react like that, but I felt what I said, and there is absolutely no arrogance in that.

"Everyone who watched the game probably felt the same. We move on. We had the opportunity, but we couldn't score, and that's the frustrating part."

United plays West Ham next, while Liverpool plays Arsenal.
