ULSTER maintained their push for a Guinness Pro 12 play/off place when defeating Connacht 20-27 at the Sportsground on Saturday afternoon.
Tommy Bowe's two tries proved to be crucial for Ulster with Head Coach Neil Doak delighted to secure a bonus point success. “At this stage we've just got to win games, but to get the bonus point was brilliant,” Doak said.
“We played pretty well at times but credit to them – they played for the full 80 minutes. It got a bit tight towards the end, but we’re just glad that we got the five points. “We have key games in the next couple of weeks against two interprovincial teams and Glasgow – all sides around the top four, top five places in the league. They are massively important matches.”
Keith Earls, Simon Zebo, Conor Murray, Duncan Casey, and CJ Stander all crossed for tries as Munster secured a comprehensive 3-34 win over Edinburgh at Murrayfield on Saturday.
Leinster, who face Toulon in an intriguing European Rugby Champions Cup semi-final this weekend, suffered a disappointing 25-22 loss away to Newport Gwent Dragons.
Coach Matt O'Connor reckons it will be difficult to attain a play/off berth in the Pro 12. "The top four is out of our hands now,” O'Connor said on Sunday. “We've got to win our games and after that see where we're at.”
