He began his coaching career at the Welsh club(Wrexham) and has moved into recruitment since then.
According to the Irish examiner, the 53-year-old gained job promotions from north-east scout to overall responsibility for signings at the club.
Carey is well known for bringing the likes of Cristian Romero, Pierluigi Gollini and Pape Sarr Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur to Spurs.
He is also said to have played a key part in Antonio Conte's arrival at the club.
The Examiner also reports that Fabio Paratici plans to revamp Tottenhamn's whole structure and Carey's replacement will come from abroad.
Carey's departure follows that of Steve Hitchen, who quit as technical performance director in February.
The Guardian claimed Hitchen “had been marginalized” on the recruitment side at Spurs since the appointment of Fabio Paratici. And after mulling over his future he met chairman Daniel Levy and asked to be released from his contract.
