Tony Kelly on the Munster title: 'We have to bring it home this time, simple as that'

Clare starlet Tony Kelly has claimed that the Banner County must do everything they can to win this year's Munster final.

Clare have impressed in this year's Munster Senior Hurling Championship, having beaten the likes of Limerick, Cork, and Waterford. They also have the added benefit of not playing for three weeks.

Brian Lohan's side will await one of the likes of Tipperary, Limerick, or Cork to reach the final before the June 11 showpiece.

However, Clare's last Munster title was in 1998, and they have lost finals in 2017, 2018, and 2022.

Kelly, 29, believes that Clare must overcome their Munster Final hoodoo, and he also went onto claim Clare will do everything in their power to achieve another Munster title.

"It is our fourth one getting to. We were beaten in our last three," said Kelly in The Mirror.

"There are a lot of lads in that dressing room who weren't even born the last time we won Munster. It is definitely on our checklist every year."

"As I said, we haven't been able to win the last three games. It is all about learning. We are in the exact same spot as last year. No better off. No worse," Kelly added.

"We have to bring it home this time. Simple as that. We have three weeks the way the schedule has worked out, which is favorable.

"All our groups played, there is another round next week while we're off. We'll do everything in our power to go to Thurles or Limerick or Cork, wherever it is, to try to win it."

Cork will be playing Limerick, and Tipperary, and Waterford will also play this weekend. Kelly admits he will be watching both games with a keen eye ahead of the final.

"I personally always follow it. I'm probably a bit more interested in the football, to be honest, watching the football than the hurling for some reason," added the Ballyea native.

"I suppose you won't know who is in the Munster final until next week and the final round. We will focus on ourselves, and we will know next week to hone in tactically on whoever."
