TIGER WOODS is leaving no stone unturned in his quest for glory at The Open in Northern Ireland.
And if that means turning his back on one of the things he loves – Guinness – he is willing to do it.
The 43-year-old is on something of a high after winning April’s Masters in what was his 15 major tournament win and first in 11 years.
But that doesn’t mean he will be getting merry at Royal Portrush this week, with the American determined to make a similar impact at The Open and move one step closer to equalling Jack Nicklaus’ all-time record of 18 major tournament wins.
Woods has been a regular visitor to the island of Ireland in the past, enjoying fishing trips with friends and that have often involved a few pints of the black stuff.
But the golf icon is steering clear of Guinness this time around.
Asked by reporters ahead of the tournament as to whether he would be indulging in a couple of pints, Woods replied: "This week? No, not this week. In the past? Um...."
McIlroy and Tiger Woods during the 2015 MastersPlayers have been known to enjoy the local hospitality in years gone by, but Woods remains focused on ensuring he plays as well as possible on a notoriously tricky course.
"My game is not quite as sharp as I'd like to have it right now,” he said.
"My touch around the greens is right where I need to have it. I still need to get the of the golf ball a little bit better than I am right now, especially with the weather coming in and the winds are going to be changing.”
