The last-16 of the World Cup have been decided, here's how each team got on and who they will face in the Quarter finals

THE FINAL LAST-16 tie of this year's World Cup tie ended last night with Portugal's demolition of Switzerland on Tuesday. 

The tournament so far has thrown up some excellent games and it's about to get a lot better as the event reaches its climax this month.

Sixteen teams have now become 8.

The first quarter-final tie will take place this Friday and the final one will end on Saturday. After this the semi-finals will commence.

Before that though here is a run down of each team and how they got to this stage.

Friday's games

Croatia

Croatia, who are no strangers to World Cup games, had to overcome a plucky Japan side on penalties to reach this stage.

Zlatko Dalić's troops won the penalty shootout against Japan 3-1 on the night. 

They now face tournament favourites Brazil on Friday. 

Brazil 

Brazil dismantled South Korea in the last-16 tie. 

The Seleção were 4-0 up going in at halftime and finished the game comfortably with a 4-1 win. 

Brazil will be very confident against the Croatians this week.

Brazil vs Croatia (Fri, 9th Dec, 15.00)

Argentina 

Leo Scaloni's side overcame a tricky tie against Australia in the last-16 last Saturday by winning 2-1.

Goals from Lionel Messi and Julian Alaverz ensured that the Copa America winners reached the final 8. 

Argentina now face a difficult test against Louis van Gaal's Netherland's side on Friday. 

Netherlands

The Dutch beat the United States of America last Saturday with a comprehensive performance.

Van Gaal's men won 3-1 last Saturday with goals from Memphis Depay, Denzel Dumfries, and Daley Blind. 

Their tie against Argentina should be one of the games of the tournament.

Saturday's games

Portugal 

Portugal who have been quite meh for this tournament produced one of the displays of the tournament on Tuesday night.

They beat a competent Switzerland team 6-1 on the night.

A hat trick from Goncalo Ramos, a goal from Rafael Leao, and Raphaël Guerreiro ensured the Euro 2016 winners are defo ones to watch going forward.

Morocco

Morocco stunned heavy favourites Spain on Tuesday.

Free flowing Spain were knocked out of the tournament by Morocco on penalties.  

The African side won 3-0 against Luis Enrique's side. 

They now face another difficult test against Portugal.

Morocco vs Portugal ( Sat, 10th Dec, 15.00)

England

England have been one of the best teams of the tournament this year. 

They showcased that by hammering African champions Senegal 3-0 on Sunday. 

Goals from Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane, and Bukayo Saka set up a mouth watering tie against France on Saturday. 

France 

World Champions France and Kylian Mbappe recorded a resounding 3-0 victory over Poland on Sunday.

Goals from Olivier Giroud and an Mbappe brace ensured that one of the tournament favourites lived to fight another day.

France and England could be one for the ages.
