The 2024 Hurling/Shinty International Irish team is announced

Eleven counties will represent Ireland in the Hurling/Shinty International against Scotland on Saturday, October 26. The game will be played at Cusack Park in Ennis, Clare.

Shinty is a team sport played with sticks and a ball. It is now mainly played in the Scottish Highlands and among Highland migrants in the major cities of Scotland, but it was once more widespread throughout the country.

The Shinty/Hurling International Exhibition match will showcase the best that both Ireland and Scotland have to offer.

Ireland's captain will be Laois and Abbeyleix star Enda Rowland. Six players who featured in the 2023 edition will also take part this year. They are the already named Rowland (Laois), Caolan Taggart (Down), Luca McCusker (Fermanagh), James Toher (Meath), Eoghan Cahill (Offaly), and Ben Conneely (Offaly).

Terence ‘Sambo’ McNaughton (Antrim) and Michael Kavanagh (Kilkenny) are the joint managers tasked with leading Ireland to victory against Scotland in Ennis.

“We are delighted with our progress. We have a strong panel assembled for the Hurling/Shinty International, with representation from 11 counties,” said joint manager Kavanagh on GAA.ie

“It’s vital that we as an association maintain our traditions, and this event affords hurlers from all tiers the opportunity to play together. The players are all looking forward, as are our management team, to October 26 when we welcome the Scotland team to Páirc Uí Chíosóg.”

The Hurling/Shinty International between Ireland and Scotland will take place on Saturday, October 26, at 3:30 pm in Cusack Park, Ennis. The game will be streamed live on the official TG4 YouTube channel.
