JEFF HENDRICK has been praised by Derby manager Steve McClaren after his late goal against Rotherham kicked off his side’s Championship campaign with a victory.
The Ireland midfielder featured in Derby’s defeat to QPR in the play-off final in Wembley in May, and after the disappointment of failing to reach the top flight the team will be aiming to secure automatic promotion for next season.
McClaren - who recently signed a new three-year deal with Derby - hailed 22-year-old Hendrick’s performance and said, “Keep your eye on Jeff.”
"He played really well in the last 10 games of last season and that was a great finish today. He's got a goal threat, he's box to box, strong and tough and he's got everything, which he's proved again today.
"He kept his head and got the winner when it didn't look like it was going to come."
