Star-studded teams revealed for Liam Miller charity game

BOTH squads have been announced ahead of tomorrow's Liam Miller charity match at Cork's Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

Around 45,000 people will descend on the home of Cork GAA tomorrow afternoon to see a variety of Manchester United, Celtic and Republic of Ireland legends take to the pitch for a very worthy cause.

The event was organised to pay tribute to the late Liam Miller, who passed away in February at the age of 36 following a struggle with pancreatic cancer.

The game will see Republic of Ireland management divided, as Martin O’Neill leads the Celtic/Republic of Ireland team while Roy Keane will manage the Manchester United team.

With just 24 hours to go until kick-off, the teams have been revealed by an unlikely source.

Former Manchester United assistant coach Mike Phelan tweeted tomorrow’s line-ups, and announced that he will act as assistant manager to the Cork native.

The Celtic/Ireland team includes some of the greatest players ever to don the green of either Celtic or Ireland, with Robbie Keane, Damien Duff, Stylian Petrov, John Hartson and Ian Harte all set to tog out.

The United team includes a host of Premier League legends, with Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Rio Ferdinand, Andy Cole and Gary Neville all travelling to Cork.

Unfortunately, Ronny Johnsen, Lee Carsley, Neil Lennon and Shane Supple will not be involved despite being included in last month’s provisional squad list.

Proceeds from tomorrow’s game will go to Liam Miller’s wife Clare and three kids Kory, Leo and Belle.

If you’re not one of the lucky 45,000 or so who managed to secure tickets, the game will be broadcast on Virgin Media Sport tomorrow from 2pm, with highlights being shown on Virgin Media One later tomorrow evening.

O'Neill and Keane will be looking forward to the break from focus on the Ireland squad, after more injury woes came to the fore in recent days with the news that John Walters could be a doubt for next month's must-win games at home to Denmark and Wales.
