THERE was no fairy tale ending for Ireland or the departing trio of Peter O'Mahony, Conor Murray and Cian Healy as France secured the Six Nations title on Saturday.
Despite overcoming Italy 22-17 in Rome to briefly lead the table, wins for England and ultimate champions France consigned Ireland to third place, the damage having been done in last week's defeat to Fabien GalthiƩ's men.
However, there was a silver lining to a disappointing end to the campaign, with Sam Prendergast named the inaugural winner of the BKT Rising Talent Award.
Awarded to a player making their Six Nations bow, Ireland's top points scorer took the accolade, which is voted for by representatives from the host broadcast partners following matchday four.
Receiving the award, Prendergast paid tribute to his teammates and Ireland staff who have supported him since he made his Ireland debut as a replacement against Argentina last autumn.
"I am delighted to receive this award and I would like to thank all those who voted for me," he said.

"I have really enjoyed playing in my first Guinness Six Nations and it is a really special feeling to represent your country.
"While individual awards are nice recognition, rugby is a team sport and I would like to pay tribute to my team-mates and coaches who have helped me over the last number of months."
The award is given to a player who has made a significant impact for their team throughout the tournament and celebrates individuals who exemplify a team mentality.
Prendergast, 22, made his tournament debut when he was given the nod at fly half over Jack Crowley for Ireland's opener over England and scored a penalty to help his side win 27-22 at the Aviva.
The Leinster player amassed 44 points in the competition as he kicked 10 penalties and scored seven conversions, while he also assisted two tries.
Prendergast, who previously won the U20 Six Nations Player of The Championship, was described as an 'integral player' for Ireland during the tournament by Six Nations chief Julie Paterson.
"He has showcased his skill, talent, and team mentality, which is at the heart of the sport," she added.
