The FAI has confirmed that Alan Quinn, the Men's First Team Coach at Shelbourne FC, has been handed a four-month suspension from all football-related activities for allegedly breaching the FAI's betting rules.
The news was announced on the League of Ireland website this weekend.
A statement released by the FAI confirmed that Quinn had broken Disciplinary Regulations relating to betting.
"Alan Quinn, Men's First Team Coach at Shelbourne FC, has been suspended from all football-related activity with immediate effect for a period of four months for breaching the FAI Disciplinary Regulations relating to betting," said the statement.
"Quinn was found to have breached Section 7.4, Regulation 3 (Betting/Gambling) of the FAI Disciplinary Regulations. These breaches are connected to 18 League of Ireland games between August 5, 2022, and May 5, 2023, and the sanction was imposed by an Independent Disciplinary Committee following a personal hearing."
Ireland's football governing body also added that they wanted people to familiarise themselves with the organisation's regulations around betting.
"The FAI acknowledges the decision of the Independent Disciplinary Committee and would like to remind all individuals involved in football of the importance of adhering to the FAI Disciplinary Regulations relating to betting. All individuals involved in football are urged to familiarize themselves with these regulations as set out in the FAI Governance Handbook and are encouraged to reach out to the FAI for additional information if they wish," they added.
Quinn, who played for the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland, Sheffield United, and Ipswich Town, and earned eight caps for Ireland between 2003 and 2007, joined Shelbourne in 2022 as part of Damien Duff's backroom team. He is still able to appeal the ban, said the FAI.
