SHAY Given is expected to announce whether he will come out of international retirement and return to Irish duty within the next 24 hours.
The 38-year-old Aston Villa reserve is reportedly considering re-joining the Ireland squad after manager Martin O’Neill and assistant Roy Keane expressed their desire to secure the goal keeper’s services.
Given has been absent from the Ireland team since retiring from international football after Euro 2012.
He is being sought after for the squad that will kick off their Euro 2016 qualifier against Georgia next weekend, and would be a preferred option to David Forde and Keiren Westwood.
Given has been awarded 125 caps and could return as the first choice keeper ahead of Wednesday's friendly with Oman.
On Wednesday evening he made his first appearance since January 2013 in Villa's 0 - 1 Capital One Cup defeat by Leyton Orient.
