Scales hopes Celtic retain Idah

Ireland's Liam Scales hopes that Adam Idah will return to Parkhead next year after he completes his loan from Norwich City.

Reports have also emerged this week that Norwich have turned down a Celtic bid for Idah, which is understood to be around £4 million to £5 million.

Idah, who plays for the Republic of Ireland national team, had fallen out of favour at Carrow Road last January. The Irish attacker was then loaned to Celtic, where he helped the Scottish champions retain the Scottish Premier League once again.

Initially written off before he started by former Celtic players, the Irish forward scored crucial goals against Rangers in the title race. There is now a different opinion of the young Ireland attacker, with some admitting they'd like to see Idah back in Glasgow for the 2024–2025 season.

His club and countryman, Scales, is one of those people who admits he'd like to see Idah back.

"He's a great lad. He's obviously a brilliant player, but to have him in the changing room as well—he's a good guy; he's brilliant; he's funny; everyone got along well with him, and we would all love to see him back," said Scales.

"He was massive for us; he scored massive goals and put in massive performances, and we would all love him back. It is obviously out of our control, but hopefully it happens."

Celtic are well equipped to deal with the situation of Idah not returning to Celtic. They also have a different profile of Kyogo Furuhashi on their books. The Japanese star is a very different threat to Idah.

Scales explained that having a strong physical threat like Idah would also be ideal for the club.

"He's obviously very different from Kyogo, who is brilliant and an amazing player," added Scales.

"But Adam has more physicality. Kyogo is better off people's shoulders, and he has obviously scored loads of goals doing that, but Adam gives you the option where you can hit his feet, and he is going to hold off the big defenders that he is playing against.

"It's a great outlet for players like me; centre-halves and centre midfielders can play into him, and he can get our creative players playing off him as well.

"That's probably a strength that he brings, apart from the goals he scored."

Celtic's first game will be against Kilmarnock on August 4. That will be live on Sky Sports Football.
