Rumour: West Ham have told Ireland's Conor Coventry to find a new club for next season

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND MIDFIELDER Conor Coventry has been told to find a new club ahead of the January transfer window.

According to website Football Insider, West Ham, his parent club, want a fee for the 22-year-old in the following window rather than lose him on a free in the summer.

Coventry joined the youth academy of West Ham United at the age of 10 and grew up around the corner from West Ham's home ground.

The young Irons midfielder has made seven appearances for the 'Hammers' in his career, but has been sent out on loan to the likes of Lincoln City. Peterborough United, and Milton Keynes Dons in previous years. . His full Premier League debut came against Manchester City in August.

On the international stage, Coventry, who was born in England, opted to play for the Republic of Ireland due to his mother being Irish.

Coventry has played regularly for the country's U17 and U19 sides He also featured 26-times for the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international team and was made captain recently.

The 22-year-old also since has been called up for Stephen Kenny's senior sides.

In March 2021, he replaced the injured Conor Hourihane in the squad for the World Cup Qualification matches against Serbia and Luxembourg and a friendly against Qatar, but did not come off the bench.

His club manager David Moyes said back in October that he expects Coventry to get a full cap soon.

“Conor is a good player and it has been difficult to get him some minutes,” said the Scot.

“He’s had plenty of chances to leave but we wanted him to stay. He is such a good lad and a good trainer. He is a great competitor.

“We had Josh Cullen who is very similar. He went to Anderlecht and is now at Burnley, playing for the full Republic team.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if Conor followed the same path. He is doing great and we like him a lot.”
