£4m Ruislip GAA development edges closer to reality

The GAA are close to giving the green light to the multi-million pound redevelopment of Ruislip, as the Irish Post reported last month.

"We approved funding for that at last Friday's Management Committee meeting,” said GAA president Liam O’Neill.

The Association’s president visited London recently to discuss the project which will cost an estimated £4.2m with the Infrastructure Committee.

The redevelopment would increase the capacity of the Emerald Grounds to 5,000, incorporate a 2,400-seater covered stand and terracing, as well as the construction of a new playing surface.

London will be tasked with raising £500,000 first.

It is expected the rest of the money would be made up of a £2.5m grant and a loan from Croke Park.

It is hoped that building will start in June 2014 with a project completion date of May 2015 ahead of the Connacht SFC quarter-final.

The development needs to be ratified by the GAA’S Central Council next month to be given the final go-ahead.

"The plans will be revealed when planning permission comes through but we have given it the go-ahead," said O'Neill.
