"We hope you can join us for this special evening to mark the centenary of one of Ireland’s most historic football clubs."

Thanks to the FAI FÁS Youth Scheme in 1989, a joint programme between the Irish government and the FAI, Keane signed for the semi-professional Irish club Cobh Ramblers in 1989 after persuasion from Ramblers' youth team manager Eddie O'Rourke.

He would make 23 appearances for the club scoring 1 goal between 1989-1990.

After impressive performances for Cobh, a scout from Nottingham Forest spotted the future Ireland captain's potential.

After two trials, Brian Clough invited the Ireland captain to sign for Forest in the summer of 1990. Keane agreed to work with the legendary football manager Clough for a fee of £47,000.

Keane's stock continued to rise at Forest despite their relegation He made 144 appearances scoring 22 goals for the club, before super club Manchester United came knocking.

He signed for Alex Ferguson's side for £3.75 million, a British transfer record at the time.

The Cork native became one of United's greatest ever captains winning 1 Champions League, 7 Premier League titles and 4 FA Cups during his time at the club.

After his playing career Keane would then turn to management with Sunderland Ipswich, and the Ireland national team before comitting full time to punditry with the likes of Sky Sports and ITV.

It's fair to say that Keane has done Cobh and Cork proud with what he's achieved during his time in football.

Despite his success Keane has never forgotten the club that gave him his start in football he has often returned to St Colman’s Park with various teams over the years to help the club.

In 2004 Keane and Manchester United played Cobh Ramblers in a friendly in sold-out Turner's Cross.

He also brought his Sunderland side to Cork in 2007 and in 2017 Roy was once again on hand to help raise funds for the club, when the Silversprings Hotel played host to an ‘Audience with Roy Keane’.
