ROY Keane has declared himself out of the running to become Manchester United’s next manager.
The former Red Devils captain said he is pleased in his current role as assistant manager to Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill and is focusing on Ireland’s Euro 2016 campaign.
“I’ve got a job already and I’m very happy with that job. No, I’ve never even thought about the Manchester United job,” Keane said at the launch in Cork of ‘Shades Week’ in aid of the Irish Guide Dogs For the Blind.
“We’ve a great set-up here now,” he added.
“Things have certainly improved. We’ll keep working on progress and trying to get the team to qualify. I feel really lucky to be working with Martin.”
Taking on the managerial role at Old Trafford – where Alex Ferguson is now one of the club’s directors – would mean that the pair would have to repair some of the damage that was caused whilst Keane was still playing for Manchester United.
O’Neill’s right hand man insisted, however, that the chance of him and Ferguson rebuilding their relationship is unlikely.
“I probably won’t ever speak to Alex Ferguson again in my life. He’s not on my mind at the moment,” Keane said.
“I wouldn’t be losing sleep over it or anything like that. Have I mellowed at all? No, I’m not sure about that.”
Last week, he made comments that the sacking of David Moyes was “very disappointing” and that “he should have been given more time to do the job.”
“It’s none of my business what goes on in certain clubs.”
Keane added that he wishes Ryan Giggs all the best as interim manager of the club.
