Rovers fans dealt Stamford Bridge ticket blow

Fans of League of Ireland club Shamrock Rovers looking to make the trip to London for their clash against Chelsea were told they would only be able to access tickets through a loyalty points system. The London club's statement also revealed that some fans were attempting to infiltrate home areas of the stadium.

Rovers and Chelsea will face off in the Conference League on December 19, with the Dublin side expected to bring a large contingent for the tie in London.

This decision comes alongside UEFA’s recent announcement that it would cap away ticket prices at €60 for Champions League games, €40 for the Europa League, and €20 for the UEFA Conference League, effective from September.

“Today’s decision marks another key step in reaffirming UEFA’s commitment to enhancing the matchday experience for all fans,” said UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin.

Demand is expected to be high for Rovers' first visit to London since their 2011 Europa League clash with Tottenham. Chelsea this week issued a statement confirming that Rovers fans with sufficient loyalty points would only be eligible to purchase one ticket per person this week.

"Loyalty points are being used for this fixture as a result of police advice regarding high demand from away supporters and the possibility of them trying to access home areas of the stadium on their first visit to Stamford Bridge," the club said.

The statement also clarified, "There will be no ticket exchange in operation for this fixture," and added that "ticket forwarding will not be permitted."
