ROSCOMMON MANAGER Davy Burke believes competitions like the Connacht FBD League 'need to be done away with' ahead of this weekend's game against Mayo this Friday.
The two sides will play for the Connacht FBD league title, before turning their attention to Allianz league division one campaigns.
However Burke isn't a fan of these type of games before the league kicks off.
Speaking to western outlet Shannonside, he said: “Is it preparation for the league?"
“Will Tyrone and ourselves play out a high scoring game in two weeks’ time? I don’t know?
“We’ll go on to next week, you see the way the O’Byrne cup is going”
“There completely unnecessary at the minute”

“We didn’t tog Darragh Cregg, we didn’t tog Colm Walsh, we didn’t tog these boys. They played 60 minutes on Wednesday night, it’s just not fair on these young bucks”.
“I believe these competitions need to be done away with! And allow you to play challenge games that suit you” Burke added.
“We’d love to play a challenge game on Sunday now at our own leisure, against whoever we like on a grass pitch, setting you up for Tyrone in two week’s time and we can play our lads for half an hour, unlimited subs, etc, etc etc.
He also went onto to say that it was merely the timing of the whole thing that bothered him the most.
“Don’t get me wrong the FBD and the dome is class, it’s not about that!” Burke declared.
“This is not about anything like that, it’s just purely about the schedule and the load of it on these young bucks in January is wrong”.
Roscommon and Mayo meet this Friday night at 7.30pm in the Connacht Air Dome for the 2023 FBD league title.
They then open their Allianz league division one campaign at home to Tyrone on Sunday January 29 at 1:30pm.
