IRELAND captain Robbie Keane has been named in the three-man shortlist for the MLS Player of the Year Award.
Keane recorded his best season with LA Galaxy during the 2014 MLS campaign, scoring 19 goals and assisting on 14 occasions.
The division’s third highest goal scorer and joint second highest assist maker, Keane’s last goal came in his team’s empathic 5-0 win over Real Salt Lake.
Coming back from an offside position, after a through ball finds Landon Donovan in the box, Keane found himself in space for the cross and tucked the ball past the keeper from close range.
The 34-year-old Dubliner joins former Newcastle and current Seattle Sounders striker Obafemi Martins and New England Revolution’s Lee Nguyen.
Meanwhile, Corkonian referee Alan Kelly has been named in the top-three man shortlist for the Referee of the Year finalists.
The winners of each award will be announced between November 24 and December 5.
