Report: Evan Ferguson close to new deal at Brighton

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND STRIKER Evan Ferguson has allegedly signed a new deal at Brighton according to The Telegraph.

The media outlet states that Ferguson (18) has been rewarded with a new deal for his performances this season at the Amex.

In October, the Bettystown man signed a deal with the club, but today he has been handed another deal.

The Meath native has scored 8 goals in all competitions this season and has been linked to a host of clubs in England's top flight that included the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea.

The outlet is quoted as saying: "The Republic of Ireland international, 18, has been on the radar of Premier League rivals after breaking into Roberto De Zerbi’s team in the second half of the season and scoring seven goals, making him one of the most sought-after teenagers across Europe.

"Ferguson had three years left on his existing deal but the terms of an extension have been agreed to reward his progress in the last months. He is expected to stay at Brighton next season where he will compete for a first-team place and continue his rapid development."

Ferguson first made his pro senior debut for League of Ireland side Bohemian's aged 14 in a pre-season friendly against Chelsea, and soon after made the move to Brighton to join their youth teams.

The Ireland forward missed last Sunday's FA Cup semi-final defeat against Manchester United, but is expected to play a part in Brighton's quest for a European qualification spot.

Ferguson isn't the only Irish youngster to sign a new deal at the club.

On Monday it was announced that Ireland U21 star Andrew Moran signed a new deal that runs until June, 2027.

Moran just last weekend was part of Brighton's travelling squad to face Manchester United on Sunday.

The midfielder signed from Bray Wanderers in 2020 and progressed through the youth ranks at Brighton

Moran made his Premier League debut against Everton in January and has been named on the bench in seven other league matches.

Technical director David Weir said, “Andrew has progressed really well through the academy and has impressed Roberto as part of our first-team squad this season. He has worked really hard to earn this new contract and now his challenge is to break through into the team.”

Brighton's next game will be against Nottingham Forest away from home on Wednesday.

The game kicks off at 19.30
