Raymond Galligan to become Cavan's senior football manager

Raymond Galligan is set to become Cavan's senior football manager. Galligan has received an endorsement for a three-year deal from the county board's management committee. He will be taking over from Mickey Graham, who chose to step down from his managerial role last month after leading the team for five seasons.

Cavan GAA officially announced this news on Wednesday. The 2020 All-Star goalkeeper will transition into a managerial position rather than retaining his dual role as a player-manager, thereby bringing his playing days at the inter-county level to an end.

Hailing from Lacken, Galligan, who guided the Breffni County to victory in the Ulster SFC three years ago, is also in the process of assembling his staff for the upcoming campaign. This team includes former Tyrone forward Stephen O’Neill and former Meath All-Ireland ladies' championship-winning manager and Gowna native, Eamonn Murray.

The 36-year-old's ratification will be formalised at the next county committee meeting.

"Cavan GAA Management committee are happy to recommend Raymond Galligan as the new Cavan Senior Football Team Manager for a 3-year term. Raymond from the Lacken Club captained the Cavan Team to an Ulster championship in 2020 and has been Cavan's goalkeeper since 2015," stated Cavan via their Twitter account.

“Raymond will be joined by Eamon Murray (former Meath Ladies Manager) as the assistant manager, James Burke (Mayo) as the head coach and selector, Stephen O’Neill (former Tyrone player) as the forwards coach and selector, Damien Keaney (Killygarry) as a selector, Andre Quinn as the head of performance, Gary Rodgers (Meath) as the goalkeeping coach, Padraig Galligan (Lacken) as the operations manager, Ronan Flanagan (former Cavan player, Castlerahan club) as the player liaison officer, Paul Gaffney as the clinical psychologist, Catherina McKiernan (Long-distance athlete) as the life coach, Paul Kilgannon for workshops, and Patricia Feeley as the nutritionist. Stats personnel include Felim O’Reilly, Briain McDonald, Peadar Soden, Kieran Dennehy, and Finbar O’Reilly. Equipment management will be handled by Fergal Brady and Aidan Smith.

“This appointment will be subject to ratification at the next county committee meeting.”
